Family meeting their new primary care provider in Henderson NV

Choosing a primary care doctor in Henderson or Las Vegas isn't only about who is closest or who shows up first on Google. The relationship matters, your primary care provider (PCP) is the person who knows your whole story, catches problems early, and coordinates everything from labs to specialists. Here's how to choose well.

1. Decide what type of primary care provider you need

In Nevada, your PCP may be a physician (MD or DO), a Nurse Practitioner (NP), or a Physician Assistant (PA). All three can be your primary care home. Family Nurse Practitioners (FNP-BC) are trained to treat patients across the lifespan and can prescribe medications independently in Nevada. What matters more than the letters is board-certification, experience, and how they communicate.

2. Check that they're accepting new patients

The Las Vegas Valley has a real PCP shortage. Many established practices are closed to new patients or have 3–6 month waitlists. Confirm availability up front. We're currently accepting new patients at Henderson Primary Care.

3. Understand how they handle payment

Insurance billing isn't everything, ask up front whether the practice is in-network with your plan, and if not, what their self-pay rates look like. We are completing insurance credentialing and currently offer transparent cash-pay pricing, see our insurance & cash-pay page for the latest status.

4. Look for the services you'll actually use

  • In-office labs and imaging coordination
  • Chronic disease management, diabetes, hypertension, cholesterol, thyroid (our approach)
  • Women's or men's health, depending on your needs
  • Telehealth visits for follow-ups and refills
  • Same-day sick visits so you're not stuck at urgent care

5. Ask about visit length and continuity

The most under-rated question: "How long is a typical appointment?" Practices that book 15 minutes can't meaningfully address chronic conditions. We schedule longer visits on purpose, so you're not rushed and we're not guessing.

6. Read recent reviews, especially the negative ones

Five-star reviews tell you what's working. One-star reviews tell you the pattern. Look for repeated themes, wait times, billing, communication. If the same issue comes up three times, believe it.
