Nevada has one of the fastest-growing Medicare populations in the country, and the Las Vegas Valley feels it. Long waitlists, rushed appointments, and confusing network rules are the norm. This is a plain-English guide for Henderson and Las Vegas Medicare patients on getting primary care that actually works.
Original Medicare vs Medicare Advantage in Las Vegas
Original Medicare (Parts A + B, usually with a Supplement) lets you see almost any provider in the country who accepts Medicare. Medicare Advantage (Part C) plans, like those from local Las Vegas insurers, use narrow networks, you can only see in-network providers without a big penalty. Before you pick a PCP, check that they accept your exact plan, not just "Medicare." Our insurance page lists the current status of our Medicare credentialing.
Use your free Annual Wellness Visit
Every 12 months Medicare Part B gives you a free Annual Wellness Visit, no copay, no deductible. It is the most underused benefit in Medicare. We use it to build a personalized prevention plan, screen for cognitive issues and fall risk, update vaccines, and catch the conditions that matter most as you age.
Chronic care is where a local PCP earns their keep
Diabetes, hypertension, COPD, and heart disease are managed visit-to-visit, not in one big appointment a year. We run regular chronic disease management visits, in person or by telehealth, so medications stay tuned, labs stay current, and you stay out of the ER.
Watch out for these local network surprises
- "Accepts Medicare" does not mean "accepts your Advantage plan"
- Hospital-owned clinics may bill facility fees on top of office fees
- Specialist referrals on most Advantage plans require PCP sign-off
- Some imaging centers in Las Vegas are out-of-network for common HMO plans
How to switch primary care providers
It is easier than most patients think. Call the new office, confirm they take your plan, schedule a new-patient visit (often a Welcome to Medicare or Annual Wellness Visit), and sign a records release. We handle the rest. Request a call back and a member of our team will walk you through it.
