Telehealth vs In-Person Primary Care: When to Use Each

Telehealth isn't just a pandemic leftover, done well, it saves you a drive across the Valley and gets you care faster. Done poorly, it misses things that needed a real exam. Here's how we think about it at Henderson Primary Care.

Great fits for telehealth

  • Follow-ups on blood pressure, diabetes, cholesterol, thyroid
  • Medication refills and adjustments
  • Most cold, sinus, and seasonal allergy visits
  • UTI symptoms in non-pregnant adults
  • Rashes you can clearly photograph
  • Mental health check-ins and anxiety/depression follow-ups
  • Lab result review
  • Quick triage when you're not sure if you need to come in

Come in for these

  • New annual physical or Medicare Annual Wellness Visit
  • Anything that needs a hands-on exam, abdominal pain, joint injuries, ear pain
  • Chest pain, shortness of breath, or palpitations (or 911 if severe)
  • Pelvic exam, Pap smear, prostate exam
  • EKG, spirometry, in-office injections, or vaccines
  • Wound care, suture removal, or biopsies

How our telehealth works

  1. You book a telehealth slot through our office
  2. We send a secure video link and intake forms by email or text
  3. You join the video on your phone, tablet, or laptop
  4. Prescriptions are sent directly to your pharmacy
  5. If we decide you need to be seen in person, we get you on the schedule that week

Insurance covers it

Medicare and most commercial plans cover telehealth at the same rate as in-person visits. We'll confirm benefits in advance so there are no surprises.
